Has anyone else had a problem with the 2004 vw jetta TDI? my drivers side air bag needs replacing because it is bad. almost $700.00. I love my jetta, but I need to know if this is just my problem or if others have had it also.
I have a 2001 Jetta Wolfsberg 1.8t and it has never had any issues. if you take care of your car, the car will take care of you. most people just jump in the car and drive. never wash it, never open the hood once in awhile to check fluids, look for leaks, check belts, check hoses etc...
I mod the car every single week and drive it hard every single day. I'm pushing 250+ horsepower to the wheels and with all that power and my crazy driving it still holds up like a champ. never leaves me stranded. I got 86,000 and still none of the problems described above. another thing people don't realize that Every Manufacturer whether VW, Honda, Ford, Chevy etc are always going to have Recalls. that's not a surprise. so for those of you that say youll never buy VW again and go back to your Honda or Kia all I have to say is that everytime I get into those cars I feel like everything is gonna break. car made out of lego's.
People should learn PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE.
2001 Jetta TDI. Everything mentioned by others and more. been in the shop now for ONE MONTH! Still not fixed. Bought a Honda last week as I just can't wait of trust this car any longer. I love everything about the car except the reliability and at the end of the day that trumps everything else. The great ergonomics, the creature comforts and the incredible handling and fuel economy mean NOTHING if the car is not reliable. Of four friends with similar VW's I'm the last hold out. All their cars are sold or dead and they are happy to be rid of them. I have given up getting a cent out of mine now. It was a bitter lesson to learn. But I have learned, and will never go near VW again. EVER.
VW 2001 Wolfsburg.
Same problems as everyone else - and each dealer behaves like it's the first 2001 1.8T they've seen. Engine light is on 75% of the time - and I've changed out all the usual suspects as mentioned previous comments (mass flow etc). I promise you I will never buy another VW or German made car again. I can't afford the time it takes to run to the mechanic every other month. This car is for sale now.
I also agree this car can drive you crazy - but... I finally went to a local VW mechanic and he knew how to deal with my 1.8T. Now, with 96,000 miles, it's performing better than it was when I had 40,000 miles on it. I plan to drive it for another 50,000. The message - stop going to the dealer. Get yourself a mechanic that you can trust. Ask around.
