2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLX review from North America
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I purchased my 2000 Jetta glx in 2001
from Lake Elsinore Ford. At the time of purchase, the airbag light stayed on, but I was assured that this was "minor" and that it would be taken care of. It went in for Service and Lk Elsinore Ford paid for it. A month later the light came on again and then the sunroof visor became jammed in the automatic mechnisam tract.
I took the car back into the dealer to get the
airbag light taken care of and for the sunroof. after the dealer had it for a couple of days I was told that they had to take the entire dasboard apart to find the problem with the air bag, the first time around they replaced the coil springs this time they say they needed to replace an entire cable harness and that I would be responsible for this to the tune of $800.00 I was dumbfounded!!! here a car company that prides themselves on their "Superior Engenieerng will not stand by an obvisiouly existing problem? They belive that their products are safer and more better built than American models, but yet will only give less than half the warranty?? 2 years 24K miles? What a Joke? I argued with Volkswagon of America advising them that I could not afford to have this repair done and that it was an existing problem. I reminded them that this was an airbag, something that I depended on to save my life and finally they relented and paid for the repair. The sunroof is still broken, they will not pay for it. and the the 3 dealer estimates that I got are all around a $1000. I have found out since this sunfoof issue is not rare that many Volkswagons have been recalled for this problem with the sunroof.
I guess Volkswagon is tired of bearing the burden of fixing their own problems!and would rather just put it off onto their customers now I know why they say "Drivers Wanter".
I was told by one independent repair shop that VW is the only mfg that builds their sunroofs like this most other mfgs
make their sunroofs as a kit and just pop the entire piece in as opposed to mine which needs to come out piece by piece $$$$. Anyway 2 months after that the rearview mirror knob broke off leaving the mirror inoperable this also they will not cover, in the three years I have owed this nightmare I have paid for A new rotor for the back wheel after the brake pad fell off on interstate 5 and scored the rotor only 11,000 miles after its full check up! this cost $350.00 a new aux water pump this was $289.00 and now at 50,400 miles
$1,096 for an alternator and battery because this has gone out! I can no longer afford fine German Enineering I am selling this car and buying an American car before something else go's wrong!
General comments?
The car is very pretty on the outside, sportty nice leather pkg on the
inside I just cannot depend on it.
