2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLS review from North America

Overall, this Jetta has been OK. I have never had a car with this many miles so I am eager to read reviews of 2000 Jettas with more than 50,000 miles to see how they are holding up.

My Oxygen Sensors have gone out 5 times in the past 18 months. The Check Engine Light has come on about 5-7 times since I bought the car. Every single time it is due to the Oxygen Sensors. The dealer said that it is because I do a lot of in town driving. Therefore, my husband started driving it on the highway only and this continued to happen. VW told me that this happens in all cars today. I never had this happen with my Honda or with our Explorer.

The driver's side window dropped down in the door once while VW service was closed. I had to take it to a private mechanic.

The cup holders broke when I first bought the car. This is a very poor feature. The salesman even told me about this when I bought the car.

The latch on the armrest compartment is broken.

The turn signal box broke at 50,000 miles.

The pieces that hold the floor mats down are broken.

The lowest volume on the radio is too loud.

I like the automatic windows.

I love my heated seats.

The car lacks in cabin storage.

I think that the leather seats wear very nicely.

I have found that the exterior paint scratches easily.

The car has good visibility, is peppy, and is cute. However, for the Oxygen Sensors are a nightmare! This is very costly and VW service told me that I can expect for this to keep happening.

Please post how your Jetta is doing after 50,000 miles so I know if I should keep it or sell it. Thanks!
