2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLS review from North America
"Do not buy this vehicle, nothing but problems"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Window regulator on each front door broke and had to be replaced.
Front clip appears to be separating from the fenders.
Arm rest latch broke 2 times.
In dash cup holder broke.
Radio volume does not work correctly, there is no low range, it is either off or at medium volume level.
Excessive brake dust.
Constant hesitation from VR6 motor.
Car has loud humming noise when letting off the gas, most likely transmission.
Bad leak I cannot find, passenger side floor fills up with water when it rains, I believe it is the sunroof.
Grease leaking from all 4 doors, very difficult to clean off the rocker panels.
Clear coat on paint is pealing up in multiple places, paint quality is very poor, I can scratch it with my fingernail!
VW Badges on the wheels have fallen off, had to replace 2 of them and re-glue on the other 2.
General comments?
I have owned this vehicle for 4 years on an option to buy deal. It is now time to either purchase the vehicle or turn it in. I obviously opted to turn the vehicle in. An inspector came out to check the vehicle for damages above and beyond normal wear and tear. She listed 3 items in which totaled over $500.00. They were all related to the paint, in two cases she listed dents, one on the front hood and one on the RR door. There are NO dents-the clear coat has pealed in a couple spots on both the hood and the door, but no dents. The 3rd item was the rear bumper in which she listed as excessive chip which again is clear coat pealing up. In my opinion these items are because of a paint quality issue-NOT because of excessive wear and tear. I am going to fight it.
An interesting situation happened about 1.5 yrs back. I took the vehicle in to fix the window regulator as the window had dropped inside the door. When they were finished they taped an invoice to the driver side door above the window. As I was complaining to the service representative about the quality of the paint on the vehicle and how easy it scratches she pulled the invoice off the door and tape pulled the clear coat right off. I had to leave my car overnight for them to repaint the upper section of the door...
