"Volkswagen Should be ashamed of themselves"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Check Engine light will never turn off, ever.

Dealership keeps charging to turn check engine light off even though there is nothing wrong.

Front bumper fell off.

Plastic Skid Plate fell off.

Both front bumper vents fell off.

Drivers side window fell into door.

Auto door lock stopped working.

Moon Roof opens and closes by itself.

Moon Roof sometimes won't open or close.

Black greasy goo leaks out of front doors.

Cup holder door fell off.

Cup holder broke very easily, too many parts.

Rear cup holder won't open.

Interior trim falling off ceiling, glue doesn't hold up to heat.

Defective sensor in shifter doesn't allow car to start on occasion.

Section of dash lights went out.

General comments?

This car was beautiful when it was new and looked like a great European car. Then we drove it home from the dealership. That's when the fun ended. It has been back to Volkswagen service so many time we have lost count. This car has had several recalls (Seat Belts, Front Door Windows, and some that we probably don't know about) and several known problems that have not been recalled (Greasy goo leaking from doors, trim falling off)

This car is a lemon in a European car's clothing. Parts and service are terribly expensive as well as routine maintenance. I could except this with other European cars (i.e. BMW, Mercedes) That are reliable, but the Jetta cannot be relied on at all. I will never even consider buying a Volkswagen or, because of the affiliation, an Audi either. Volkswagen should do the right thing and recall the entire car!

I completely agree with this review. Everything that was stated happened to my 99 Jetta GL also!

This car is nothing, but trouble.

I was shocked to read all the comments. I have had my 99 Jetta since new and have 93,000 miles now. My first issue is with the check engine light coming on and won't go off. The VW dealer said to ignore it if the car is running OK. Now when I put the key in the ignition, it starts ding, ding, ding like I left the door open. It stays on for a few minutes after driving, very annoying. I am taking it to be checked out tomorrow. But, my overall experience has been great! I love this car, it gets great gas mileage and has lasted me almost 10 years.
