My 1.8T looks great, but Runs like crap. It constantly sputters and stalls, It has been in the the dealer 7 times and they can't find the problem. They have reaplaced coils, master cylinder, sensor, and numerouse other parts and sitll can't find the problem.
Friday 12/5/2003 CT had a large snow fall. while my wife was driving the car up a hill on the merrit parkway, it just shot itslef off. Now traffic was at a stand still (in fact it took most people 3 house to get home) so she wans't pushing the car at all. THIS IS A NEW CAR, 26k I paid for it and it souldn't be doing this. I brought it to a dealer in Stamford, CT today and of course, they can't find the problem.
Now this is the second dealer this car has been to and Nothing has come out of it. VW does not take owership for their mistakes and I find it unfortunate.
I can only sympathize with your story. I also, with the best intentions, purchased my 1.8 2002 turbo Jetta, as like yourself, for 26K or better. At short first, it was my dream car, as I had an SUV prior, and wanted a sleek looking car, which, by the way, this VW was. I purchased a brand new Jetta, the "autobahn" edition, with a lot of extras, including, rock hard, galatic blue pearl paint, and grey/black velour interior. As you must know as well, the dash looked remimicient of a cockpit of a Cessnea (sp).I was in VW Heaven... FOR 4 months... After 4 months, the air condition/ventilation system eliminated from it's guts someplace deep init's engine, a mildew smell, that when put on moderate to high, smelled like the filthiest pair of socks that I, as a child, might have had the misfoutune to have. # x to the dealer. 3 stories which made no sense and repaired Nothing... Too tired to pursue the lemon law. Couldn't deal when my window, out of nowhere, feel right down into the door... That was it. Took my losses, went to a Nissan dealer who offered me the best price on my beautiful, but awful jetta, and now, even though I lost a bit of money, I purchased my dream car... A Nissan Pathfinder SE.. What a difference.. I must have been insane to ever consider a VW. I had nothing, but grief... get rid of the car.. Your happiness is worth far more that the car itself..
Best wishes, Linda.
I just purchased the same car, used, as a certified used car. The same darn thing happened to me. So, they've replace the alternator (according to the service record, it's had 5 new batteries since delivery) and it seems to have fixed the problem. Thankfully, I still have the full warranty so their experiments won't cost me anything besides an inconvenience. But now it even idles smoother. That's just a suggestion if the car is still around. Good luck.
