2000 Volkswagen Jetta review from North America

Since I have bought the car from a private dealer earlier this year, I have had nothing but problems. First the fuse for the speedometer area blew, but couldn't be fixed by simply replacing the fuse, I had to take the car to a dealer because there was an electrical short in the fuse box and I spent $200---$20 on parts and $180 on labor.

Just today, I took the vehicle in to get my oil changed and my check engine light was on and a few hours after I left the car I was informed that I need to make numerous repairs including coolant, shocks, brakes, and so much more equaling $2,000.

The seats are not comfortable and definitely attract hair and lint. I will never understand why there you have to turn a dial to recline the seat back, almost everything in the Jetta is automatic except for that one, important, device. Its quite irritating.

I am a sophomore in college and after my first car, my 1994 Acura Integra, I regret making this purchase. Although my Integra also needed maintainance, I was able to handle most of the problems from shocks, to air filters, to oil and other fluids, but the Jetta is impossible to handle especially on a student's salary. If you do not have money to take good care of this care, I do not recommend the purchase of any VW make.
