1999 Volkswagen Jetta GLS review from North America
"If you want to pay a lot to impress your friends with a cheap BMW wanna be, this is your car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The radiator blew and overheated the car the first week I had it, at 50,000 miles. After 3 trips to the dealer they finally figured out what it was.
The cupholders broke the first 2 weeks I owned it. Price to get it repaired? $120.
The A/C condensor and compressor died at 60,000. Price to repair? Between $1200-1500.
The front ground effect on the fron bumper tore off at 62,000. Not repaired yet.
A bent wheel will cost me $300+
And last, but not least the starter is now wearing out at 65,000.
General comments?
Great comfort on the inside, except in the VA humidity when the A/C broke.
Drives like a european car.
Gas mileage no as good as expected.
Cost to own... WAY TOO HIGH for a supposed compact/mid.
I bought this based on my previous experience with the VW Quantum. Loved that car.
After the Jetta experience, would not buy another VW.
