That had to have been a typo or someone lied to you, no saturn in existence get 46 mpg.

As for the Jetta.. I agree with the above statement that VW's are no longer the econo car... yes the jetta has a value edition that is aimed at the economic buyer, but even the value edition comes almost fully loaded... all its missing are rims, sunroof, and chrome accents on the exterior. Frankly is he paid 30G for a jetta, I would hop its the fully loaded, no holds barred, no stone left unturned model... and even then you overpaid. You can get a Jetta 2.5 Value Edition... with ABS, 6 airbags, cruise control, AC, cd player with ipod jack, auto trans, power windows, doors, locks, keyless entry and a bangin set of speakers... for 17 grand. Why pay 13 grand more for leather, rims and chrome trim around the windows??

I am under the slight but weird impression that the most expensive "new" Jetta is about 23k. The TDI lists for about 24k.

And yes, I used to sell VW. Chrome comes for 23,000. And a new Jetta S with the stick shift and cloth seats is about high 18's, low 19's. Not 17. And most people buy the SE which is about 21-22k. Before taxes of course.

Now - if that guy had bought the SEL for 23k, and then added some, say, negative equity, I fully understand how he paid 30k for it.
