2002 Volkswagen Jetta GLS VR6 review from North America

1. First 500 miles, center console piece came apart and was no longer used.

2. At 50K miles, oxygen sensor light came on and it needed to be replaced (about $450 repair).

3. At 100K miles, engine lost all its coolant and over-heated. I took it to the dealer and they said the ‘auxiliary’ water pump went bad. “Auxiliary”?? What about the main water pump?? ($500 repair).

4. At 110K miles, engine began making a loud clicking noise. I took it to the dealer and they said I needed new lifters. I paid $450 for the lifters and the next day, they called me and said that they thought there was more damage because there was ‘sludge’ all over the inside of the engine and they recommend a new engine. I asked what caused it and they said that it probably ran out of oil or I never changed the oil. I changed the oil every 7-9K miles and used synthetic. All my driving was highway driving. I find it hard to believe that it was due to lack of frequent oil changes. My previous car (Ford Ranger) never had that problem. The car before that (91 Chevy Camaro RS) had 155K miles when I sold it and I never had any engine problems with it and it was running like a champ when I sold it.

5. I found a used engine (18K miles) and after 2K miles, the engine light came on.

6. I’m taking the car in, but I’m through with VW. I will never own a VW again.

Don't buy VW... BUY AMERICAN... CHEVY!!!
