I have a 2001 VR6. I love the way the engine runs, and the trans is super responsive, but everything else breaks. I have only 65000 miles and I had 4 recalls done, mirror switch broke, rattles all over, console broke twice and front door regulators broke. I live in Jersey and the roads suck, but the suspension seems shot already; that's my next thing. Oh and the brakes wear quickly, and you always have to change the rotors and pads.
Toronto Canada. I have my eye on a 2001 VR6 Jetta automatic. I never owned an automatic before. How does this transmission perform & what is its reliability record?
I have a 2001 Jetta GLX and I think I've had the ignition coil replaced 4 or 5 times and it's on its way out again. I love the car, but hate the problems and cost of repair. I'll be buying another make next time.
I've had nothing but problems with my 2001 VW VR6 GLX. Everything from the ignition coil to the catalytic converter has been replaced. In all, over $3000 worth of repairs. Luckily I purchased a bumper to bumper warranty after I got it in 2002.
The VW dealership I went through used every excuse in the book, but I knew there was something wrong with this piece of !@#$.
Thanks for sharing your experience, I thought I was crazy too.
My GTi GLX is at about 94K and my catalytic converter and my coil pack just went. Along with my front left speed sensor and a vacuum hose... love the car, but don't think I will be getting another. Any one know if any of my problems are under recall???
I have a 2000 VW jetta with over 260000km on it... My engine light went on recently as well, and the dealer said it's an ignition coil misfire...I've already replaced my ignition coil at roughly 200000... and am now in need of a new one... the problem only persists in wet conditions or after it hasn't been run in a while..I've also had the catalytic converter issue, and after replacing all O2 sensors as well as the catalytic converter, I only received the money back for the catalytic converter...
Why doesn't VW accept the ignition coil issue? I don't feel like paying another 1000$ + for the issue... I like the car, but am seriously thinking about getting rid of it after putting tons of coin into this lemon!
The Volkswagen Jetta Mk4. German engineering FAIL!
