1997 Volkswagen Jetta GT review from North America
"Great car, definitely go with the GT version and if you can find the V6 go for it"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Ignition module went bad 3 days after I bought the car (300 at dealership)
Hanger for the exhaust needs to be replaced ($5 part)
Sunroof stuck in the tilt position (one of the arms is bent, $40 to fix at a private shop, $500 to fix at a dealership)
General comments?
Great car, good engine, especially for the inline 4! When I am at any light, or on the road in general, every POS honda tuner comes and tries to race me. The car is stock, but still has enough power to blow away any honda except the V-TEC engines. It also has good enough acceleration from 50-110+, good enough to keep up with a firebird at least. The one thing I would change about this car is to put in the performance chip and some exhaust mods. Also the seats aren't the most comfortable to be driving long distance in, but this isn't a luxuary car so what can you expect?
I would definitely stay away from dealerships though, find an honest vw specialist and have him do all the work for you, and you are going to save a ton of money!
