General comments?

My experience has not been positive. I think the car is stylish and I enjoy the luxury features such as the heated seats, but it has spent many days in the shop and has been a major financial burden. I"m not a happy camper. I purchased the car in '02, new. From that time, thankfully, some cover under warranty, I've had problems. The windows have fallen off the tracks; it won't come out of park unless you tap on the gas (suggestion of dealer), the recall that left my car in the shop for three weeks!! Not to mention all the stuff that really racked up after my warranty was up! Like a seat belt module that was over $700! And, this week, with only 70,000 miles on it, my transmission blew. That's right ladies and gentleman, it's done, cook, finished….and so am I. I had an '87 Cabriolet with 300,000 miles on it! We always had VW in our family and I was VW most convinced customer, but not anymore. "They just don’t make them like they use to." The news of my transmission also came with, "oh and your ignition coil is going and you have cracks in your hoses." Considering how much the transmission was going to cost and NO ONE in my area other than the dealership is willing to work on them because they are so difficult…it's time to move on. I just made a deal tonight on a hopefully more reliable car. Good-bye VW.

Oh yeah, I feel your pain. My transmission is shot after 52,000 miles. Piece of crap... I will only buy Hondas and Toyotas after this!!

I have a 2002 Jetta. I have owned it for about a year and a half and have had this car in the shop for repairs on many occasions. I had it about three months and had to have the oil pan replaced. I have had to replace the bulbs on the back brake lights twice and now have to pay around $75.00 because the left turn signal went out and it also burned out the socket. The oil light kept coming on, it wouldn't come out of park, had to have that fixed. I had it in for service and one month to the day, I heard a knocking under the hood - not to mention another quart and a half low!! I have after market wheels on the car that was on there when I bought it, so now they have to go back and put factory wheels back on - it's been in the shop now for 3 days and here it is the weekend and won't get it back until Monday. Never again!! My next car will be a Honda or Toyota.
