2000 Volkswagen Passat GLS review from North America
"A great family car, but don't buy it if you are a 16 year old kid"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The car's battery completely died overnight a few months ago, and when I checked to see if I left a dome light on or a door partway open, it was just fine. No lights were on or doors were open, and the headlights were turned off.
I scuffed my rim on the curb a while ago, and about a month later the tire went flat. The car repairman told me it was because of the rim. Why it took so long, I have no idea.
Leather seats look terrible from wear.
General comments?
This car is an underpowered boat. It is enormous car (from the inside) with only a 1.8L engine. I drive it like it's a Mustang with its manual trans, but still, I should figure more than 15 MPG.
I would like more than 150 HP and 150 torque, and better acceleration. More speed would be nice, too. I got dusted by a '94 Toyota Celica.
The speakers are terrible. If DO go against my advice and buy this car, do SOMETHING to the speakers.
I have received a lot of abuse from my friends for having such a girly car. Don't buy this car if you are in high school. Or play football. Or have friends that would make fun of you for it.
