2001 Volkswagen Passat review from North America

The day I drove this car off the lot the check engine light came on. It was sent to the VW service department and they claimed it was the gas cap. One month later the light came on again and I was told that it was my O2 sensors and that they had to be replaced. 6 months down the road they said that my oil was mixing with the transmission fluid and it cost me $1100 for diagnosis and repair. In June of this year I broke down miles away from home the check engine light was on and then I got a message that the engine was shutting down. It was repaired in Maryland at the cost of VW of America. (they did not pay for my rental or my hotel fees) Low and behold last week on Thursday the check engine light came on again this time they say it is the mass air flow sensor. I have had enough - I never had a major issue with my Nissan I have had two, the 1995 and then the 2000 - prior I have had Honda's and a Toyota Camry. In my opinion VW cars are not built to last like they used to - I am physically ill due to the problems I have had with this car. Not to mention the pain that my wallet has felt (and right before Christmas, every one in my family is suffering because of the problems I have had with this car). I will never, I repeat never purchase a VW of any sort ever again in my life and I do not recommend this vehicle at all.

This car has been a headache and the maintenance cost is high.

I have never had this many problems with any vehicle that I have ever owned, It is a nightmare on wheels.
