2001 Volkswagen Passat GLS Wagon review from North America
"Will never buy another VW"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Constant expensive repairs.
Rear cup holder popped out at 30k - has never stayed in.
Pieces of wood trim fall off.
Shift veneer split.
Head light burns out constantly 100k.
Control arms went at 75K. Took to two
dealerships that varied in price by $800.
Rear window would not go up. Took 4 trips
to repair.
At 50K dash information screen faded out in hot weather.
Check engine light comes on if gas cap is not
tightened sufficiently.
155k Brake Fault Light ABS and ASR lights
keep coming on because "stuff has gotten jumbled up"
in there." $900 estimated to repair.
General comments?
Car is comfortable and was nice to drive.
However it is so expensive to repair what seems
like foolish engineering issues.
