2008 Volkswagen Passat Comfortline review from UK and Ireland

"Very, very, very poor quality"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Doesn't like rain. Rain upsets the central locking.

Rain water leak through passenger door. Seal replaced by dealer.

Reflections in windscreen from dash chrome strips.

Electric key packed in and left me stranded twice.

Electric parking brake has needed constant attention & "repairs" by dealers. Switch replaced twice, mechanism lubricated and replaced several times, but still sticks on about half the time.

Dual mass flywheel has been replaced. Had a fight with dealer when the clutch started juddering. They claimed premature clutch wear caused by my driving. I asked them to keep the parts that were replaced so that I could see the wear, but they didn't and tried to charge me £750 to replace the flywheel and clutch. I complained to VW UK, but they were not interested. Only resolved the matter after getting Trading Standards involved, but still had to pay £250.

Several minor electrical niggles with the car.

ABS sensor replaced under warranty.

Uneven tyre wear due to badly aligned front suspension (another fight with dealer).

Water pump replaced.

EGR valve replaced.

Injector module replaced.

Software upgrade to cure flat spot.

Excessive oil consumption "not a problem" according to dealer.

General comments?

Wish I'd kept my Astra. This car is nothing but trouble.

Too many problems not resolved by dealers. Dealers charge rip-off prices Dealer courtesy cars often not available or poor quality / dirty inside and out.

If the dealership spent as much time on customer satisfaction as they did on their glossy showroom, it would not be so bad.

Extremely disappointed with the quality and reliability of the car, and the attitude of the dealers.
