1991 Volkswagen Passat CL review from UK and Ireland
"I want another one! A superb all-rounder"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Required a front engine mount when bought.
Kept blowing 30Amp fuses - eventually traced the fault to a busted central locking motor, but not before the thing had burnt out the wiring and left the car ponging for weeks!
Blew a rotor arm at about 185000 miles.
Has an intermittent misfire now (since about 190,000) but not sufficiently regular for a garage to find it.
General comments?
Paid £700 for it - as a banger.
Pulled an old (heavy) caravan up hill and down dales with it.
Had it 18 months and it's been (almost) a dream car. For something this old, you really can't go wrong, but compared to Ford/Vaxhaul they are expensive to buy used.
