2001 Volkswagen Passat V5 review from UK and Ireland
"Excellent comfort and space"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Catalytic Convertor blew at 25000 miles.
Ignition coil 3 went at 54000 then coil 1 went at 58000 miles, so they replaced the others.
Engine management light has come on several times and dealer has reset on half a dozen occasdions.
General comments?
The VW is an excellent car despite it's occasional breakdowns, it is the new style model with 6 disk cd player in the dash.
The seats are especially comfortable and there's plenty of room for my family etc.
The only complaint I have is on the performance of the V5 model, I purchased the model because of the trim level that came as standard and the leather\alcantara seats. The ride is a little bouncy, and the fuel economy does no better than 28 mpg, over long journeys and usually I get about 25-26mpg.
But if you can live that, it does seem a classy car for the money - lots of extra's and looks the part.
