2000 Volkswagen Passat GLS review from North America
"Amazing car to drive, but I would have to say its my most terrible nightmare to own this money pit"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
CV Joint.
Complete Electrical System.
Turbo.
Mass air flow sensor.
02 sensor.
Rocker panels coming unglued.
Complete engine failure resulting in rebuilding the engine and replacing most of the faulty parts which cost $4000 dollars or about half its retail price.
General comments?
The car is amazing to drive - fast, easy to handle, and I love the tiptronic transmission. But the problems with the car have been too extensive to be worth it. The electrical system recently went out and when I say the whole system I mean it: power locks, trunk and gas buttons, interior lights including the ones that come on so you can see how to get into the car. The locks have been a problem and I now have to go through a huge process of opening, closing, and locking doors in a very methodical way for them all to lock. The display won't stop telling me to "stop the car immediately" and the service engine light hasn't gone off as far as I know of in quite a while. The turbo is great, but had to be replaced. Acceleration is decreasing, but it's still a blast to drive. I am sick of this car, but I love it too much to get rid of it, and if I really didn't want it, no one else does either; trust me, I've tried.
