I purchased the car second hand in mid August.
In September the power steering went, and the pump was replaced under guarantee.
Since then the rever stay at 10 when the car is not moving, it does not return to 0.
The brakes screech if I brake suddenly. I have since found out, the brake pads need replacing.
Now this evening the EPC light comes on.
I am female and know nothing about cars.
Can the replacement of the power steering pump have caused the rever to stay at 10 instead of returning to 0, and is this the cause of the EPC light coming on?
Any info would be helpful thanks.
It has jerked one two separate occasions.
Sometimes it feels as if it is bouncing.
Relaible, but sluggish coming up a hill, low power.
Hi! The rev counter will not return to 0 with the engine running-the gauge has nothing to do with road speed, only engine speed. The rev counter counts the revolutions (turns) of the engine and is usually marked in small letters x100 if figures are 0-80 or x1000 if figures are 0-8.
Most gauges are marked to show 0 (engine off) up to about 6,000 revolutions per minute (rpm) and this will therefore show as 0-60 rpm x100 on the VW display.
When an engine is turned on, it runs at about 800-1000 rpm (eg 0.8-1.0 on your dash) before you touch the accelerator. This is known as "tick-over" speed and is absolutely normal, and show the engine is running. If you stall, it will return to 0.
I would take the car to a VW garage so they can plug it in to their computer and download the fault code information from any fault that has caused the EPC light to illuminate, and then ask what needs to be done.
VW have recently guaranteed that they will match the price of any works carried out by another garage within 5 miles of the VW garage-so worth finding out the problem and having other garages quote to repair, then going back to VW to price match the other quotes. VW may even pay for some of the repair if it is a common fault, or linked to the other repair.
Hope this helps! Well done for finding the site and asking the questions! Good luck...
The polo shares a lot of components with the Skoda Fabia.
You may find the BRISKODA website forums useful as you can search for information by key words eg power steering.
Hope that help you.
