1999 Volkswagen Polo Classic review from Jamaica
"Performed well, but a big let down, too soon"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Wipers came on by themselves and would not go off.
Front window regulators snapped about two years apart.
Radiator Fan made a loud noise, took long to go off. Replaced at 30,000 miles.
Muffler went at 15,000 miles.
Gas line leaked.
AC fan developed loud noise. Checked and assessed as O.K.
Noise returned. Within three days of checking the car caught fire. Entire engine burnt and car assesed as uneconomical to repair. All this happened at only 35,000 miles.
General comments?
A neat, attractive, quick, easy-to drive and comfortable car.
The boot and structural quality were exceptional.
I loved the car so much that I wanted to keep it, even though I was considering making another purchase.
The loss of my Polo is indeed a shocker. My confidence in the Volkswagen brand has taken a nose-dive.
