2002 Volkswagen Polo E review from UK and Ireland

I have just purchased a 2002 1.2E VW Polo. I have had it less than a week and have noticed a lot of clunking creaking noises which appear to come from the bottom of the car.

I immediately went back to the dealer who will look at it next week, but doesn't seem to have a clue what it would be.

The noises are very familiar to me as my family have always owned VW's and we have had a lot of old VW's from the 1980's and 1990's. These kind of solid creaking noises seem to go hand in hand sometimes with old cars, however, my new Polo is only five years old.

I have read reviews mentioning anti roll bar bushes and sticking rear brakes, is this what it is likely to be?

I feel like I may have been slightly naive to buy this car as when I initially took it out on a test drive the car lost power on more than one occasion and the engine cut out. However, the dealership fixed this and afterwards the car seemed twice as powerful and drives perfectly. Also, before the test drive the car had been sitting on a forecourt in the Highlands of Scotland in shocking weather for two months.

On the whole I am very happy with the car. It drives well, the brakes are good, it feels very safe and I think I got a good deal on it.

On the other hand, the niggling clunking noises are spoiling my enjoyment of the car and worrying me that something serious could be wrong with it.
