Most of the bits that have been replaced are due to wear and tear. I have recently replaced the backbox. The charger has just been rebuilt for safe keepings.
Driveshafts are becoming noisy, tappets as well.
When I first purchased the car I didn't realise how fast they actually were. A week after owning my car I had it chipped and pulley'd, bringing the power up to a respectable 25bhp over standard trim (113bhp).
I bought the car as a daily driver and look forward to driving it every day.
It's great, the only way of telling that it's supercharged is by the sticker on the front and back.. take these away and people think you have a CL model!
Good to see someone is full of the festive spirit, and with comments like "RS Turbo Eater" someone has had a LOT of festive spirit!
It's not a bad little car, but the only way it would beat something like an RS is if the car was being driven by santa with all the reindeer in the back! :)
And no I don't own one! I have a rather more "grown up" Saab 2.3 turbo :)
Merry christmas folks.
Sorry to disagree, but a chipped and pulleyed G40 does 60 in under 7 seconds, quicker than a 2.3 Saab turbo, mine has consistently pulled a sub 15 second standing quarter...oh, and yes, I do own one.
I think you're probably getting the RS Turbo a little confused with an RS Coswroth.
Fighting talk my boys!

Just to clear something up:
RS Turbo has 1.6 CVH + turbo
Cosworth has a cossi 16v lump with mahoooosive boost.
Two very different cars, and yes a G40 could beat a RST. I should know, I had a modded RST before I bought my G60 edition 1.
I have a standard G40 1994.
Only have a C&S exhaust system and it makes 7 seconds 0-100kmh.
The car is very light and the G-Lader is realy powerfull when the returning back valve really opens...
Looks like a bike touching the red line...
Carlos, from Portugal.. good summer..and sun is shinning here...
At the moment, I am driving a 2001 Peugeot 106 g.t.i. Now as far as I am concerned this is a quick car 0-60 in roundabout 7 seconds...ish. Not sure of accurate time, but never tried to record it. I have always wanted to lay my hands on a polo g40 as I think it is a cracking little motor with great potential for upgrading both styling and more importantly the engine. Where is the best place to locate a good example, and besides full Volkswagen history and a good charger service record, what else should I be looking for. Any comments would be appreciated.
Cheers. BEN...

I bought my G40 from a lady (first owner) in Feb 2001 who had put 110,000 miles on it just going up and down the motorways repping. Now it has done 140,000 and it is still the fastest little thing I've ever driven apart from my brothers Sub Impreza Turbo (Wooohh...)
I look after mine and never REALLY blast it, but, and I know all you G40 addicts are going to gasp now, I've never had the charger rebuilt! I don't know where to go cause I live in Cornwall, any ideas? And how much does something like that cost, and if I'm not really blasting it on the bypass valve all the time (I'm no boy racer) - do I definitely need it 'rebuilding?' (If it ain't broke - don't fix it?)
So, Any comments?

I’m from Portugal and I currently drive a Volkswagen POLO G40.
It’s a racing little machine!!! I bought mine about 3 year ago with 100.000 km now it has 126 and it still has that phenomenal “boost” that just keeps on going since the 2300 rpm, till the Red line.
The G40 is the kind off car that, if you’re something of a “driving lover” you will definitely love this car. Mine is doing 0 to 60 in just 6.8 seconds, but my charger has never been rebuilt, it’s kind of difficult to find someone with skills to do that in Portugal. (Any ideas about charger rebuilding…?).
G40 lovers…. Keep on going!! And drive safe.

I've got a 1.3 cl its slammed and has seriously wide rims, but does anyone know where I can get a supercharger for it so it doesn't just look good! anyone with info please e-mail mjh0105@aol nice one dub lovers.
I've had a G40 for the last 3 years and don't plan to change it for anything else. Basically you get big engine performance and small engine efficiency depending on how you want to drive. It is NOT a normal CL with a supercharger fitted, it has a different compression ratio, heavy duty exhaust valves and knock controlled ignition timing and as such lends itself very well to power increases (some are running close to 200bhp!). That's kind of missing the point though. Even in standard form it delivers everything you could want from an every day car in terms of performance albeit with very basic trim (by modern standards).

I have had my g40 for a year now, and love it. after owning a scirocco scala and then a mk2 8v gti golf it really is the car I was looking for all those years ago. the charger had been rebuilt to stage 4 (gas flowed) spec by jabbasport when I bought it. I put brembo max grooved discs on the front with pagid fast road pads, which help the stopping a bit. I love my car!!!11.
Hey there. i am a VDub enthusiast and currently have a golf mk2 driver, but recently i have been looking towards the G40 direction due to the fact of performance and how i have nevver heard one bad comment about them. i was wondering if anyone was selling up or would like to px maybe. my golf is rolling on 17" deep dish alloys, lowered -40, debadged grille and eyebrow spoiler, smoked front and side repeaters with G60 rear lights, also a brand new set of big bumpers that have been pro sprayed, the car has 137000 miles on it but the car is mint with an even minter interior, s/r, r/c/l, p/a/s. if anyone knows anything or any one who might be interested my Number is 07745549271.... thanks joe
