1984 Volkswagen Polo Coupe S review from UK and Ireland

Pierburg carb needed re tuning to pass Mot emmisions.

Worn brake lines replaced at 117000.

Bad interior water leak traced to slight shunt on left wing disturbing sealing at joint and allowing water in to the car by the glove box area.

Speedo and Tacho replaced at 110000 miles as both were faulty.

Other than that just usual stuff such as cables, cv boots, and tyres.

Battery box rusted out - fixed with fiber glass.

A mates sister was desperate to sell the car before she went abroad for a year. Having owned a 1 litre hatch at the time I could not resist the purchase. 400 bells exchanged and a rare early comet blue metallic coupe s was mine. Having owned the car for a year now all I can say is what a gem. It goes well although only a 4 speed, its comfortable at 80mph at around 4200 revs. The car had been fitted with an extreme 70mm lowering kit when I bought it, I enjoyed this although the car could have no passengers- not even 1 front one! It eventually pissed me off though when I drove through a pothole last summer and put a nice dent in the floor pan. some sledgehammering and 200 od quid on replacing the standard suspension later she is now in fine fettle, and I plan to restore her fully when time and money allow. It is tempting to dream of fitting a G40 engine and uprating the chassis, getting it fully resprayed etc.. sadly this is pie in the sky for a piss poor student like me.
