1985 Volkswagen Polo C review from UK and Ireland
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Back pressure in engine causing air filter to choke up continually.
Thermostat needed changing.
Mysterious misfire kept appearing at low revs.
Rear wiper & demister packed up at 70K.
Went through spark plugs like a big plug eating thing.
Fair number of rust spots.
Glove box and both windows leaked in heavy rain or the car wash.
Wheels needed re-balancing 2 or 3 times over 20K of driving.
General comments?
Not a bad little car, but the only thing you could overtake uphill would be a milk float driven by a blind 90 year old tax inspector. Acceleration dire, but once up to 75-80 will hum along happily for a good while. Interior very plasticky and although roomy the rear seat fold down system is terrible. Ride quality pretty firm, and cornering fairly hair raising due to tyres the width of a drinks coaster.
However, very reliable most of the time, pretty cheap to run and very low insurance.
