2000 Volkswagen Polo SE from UK and Ireland - Comments

"A fine car - until the cheap components failed & Volkswagen just shrugged their shoulders"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Door Lock paddle fractured (monkey metal part)

Window regulator motor failed (cog wear)

General comments?

Seriously concerned at Volkswagen's continuing use of cheap materials in motors & locks despite decades of failures & dissatisfied customers.

Volkswagen & its dealer network have no integrity & have been using inferior components for at least a decade, regardless of their awareness of recurring problems.

I totally agree a fundamentally sound car spoiled by the deliberate use of poor quality lock parts and window winders. I have owned mine since new (2001) in that time locks have failed once and winder motors on front windows have failed three times (very expensive) otherwise nicely engineered.

I recently brought a VW Polo and at 32k miles the gearbox needs replacing n guess wat VW av dne nothin to help... talk abt customer satisfaction... my car now costs a £1,000 to repair. So if you wna buy a VW THINK again apparently gearbox problems r a common fault in these good for nothi cars!!!

I am interested to know what symptoms the gear box showed

that required it to be replaced. I have a 2002/1.2 Polo and around 30k, entry to 4th gear up or down fails most of the time

Manipulating the clutch and letting the revs. drop to idle sometimes facilitates access. The Volkswagen dealer can't figure it out and I fear the worst. Anybody had similar problem resolved?

My Gearbox problem was mainly when the car was to be put from second gear to the gear baove or below. It was stiff, now the problem is so bad the car whilst driving clips out of gear n goes into neutral - this is now dangerous to the road... if ya having gearbox problems at 30k ya headin slowly for new gearbox which VW will be happy to supply for a grand if you av dat kinda money to spend afta buying da car!!
