1980 Volkswagen Rabbit L review from North America
"A superb little car that needs very little improvement"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Transmission blew at the 39000
vacuum advance broken upon purchase
small rip in driver's seat.
General comments?
What a wonderful car. It accelerates quickly and handles like a go-cart. Despite having only 90 horsepower, I have still been able to out-drag several new Honda's on the road today.
I was disappointed at first with the lack of a fifth gear, but, it still gets 25-28 miles per gallon.
The other problem was the lack of accessories in the interior. As you can see, I have added my own arm-rest to alleviate that problem.
Overall, I would have to say that Volkswagen did an extraordinary job in the design of this car. I was incredibly lucky to have found one in such good condition and plan an keeping it until it completeley dies.
