1989 Volkswagen Scirocco GT review from UK and Ireland
"Nice and torquey"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Over heating problem-Radiator had a leak.
Exhaust blew.
Carb was absolutely awful for idling/economy.
Needed new Battery.
General comments?
Quick car, hits 60 in about 9.4 seconds.
Handles very well.
Parking is difficult as the rear view is terrible due to a massive Spoiler being in the way.
Keep the carb well tuned as it goes off the boil very easily.
Use Shell Optimax and octane booster to improve performance (trust me, you`ll notice the difference if you currently use un-leaded),get it rolling road tuned and use decent coolant.
The car can hit about 35mph in 1st and 60mph in 2nd which explains the good 0-60 time for a car with only 90bhp.
Fit Golf GTI 16v brakes, Master cylinder and servo up front as the brakes are rubbish.
The car is very torquey in all of the gears and is an excellent road car-it easily beats 'reps' in 2.5 vectras,2.0 mondeos and 1.8 cavaliers.
If you`re looking for a cheap, reliable, quick car, then I can recommend a Scirocco GT.
