Bought the car at 66K and of course it needed a head gasket job, nothing too bad, just a small seep, but I wanted it done.
Water pump replaced at 88K, bought an OEM, no problem.
Recently at 110K, put new CV boots on the front axles, one had blown grease and I just wanted new ones all around.
Rough idle on the starts at around 90K miles, ran high octane and a couple techron bottles, fixed it in 3K miles, no problem.
My console light above the speed is burnt out currently, oh well, it's not really fast anyhow.
This auto is fun to drive. It sits high and I feel confident offroad with the Syncro option and locking diffs.
I surf a lot and this fits longboards no problem. Also fits just about anything else.
I am tempted to buy a new Land Rover, but just can't stop driving this beast.
Great visibility from the cockpit.
VW Vanagons are generally slow, but oh well, go buy a Porsche "baldy". Unique driving experience, try it, it's addictive.
I actually bought a brand new Land Rover in 1997, before EVERYONE else started driving them. When we had another child and my husband and everyone said we NEEDED a van. Well it will be a cold day in **** as far as I am concerned the day you HAVE to buy a minivan. So I insisted if I was geting a van I was getting a Volkswagen Vanogan. After months of looking I found a 1987 synchro and sold my Landrover and paid less for the van than the deposit on the Landrover. I have been driving it for 7 years and I would never go back to a LandRover. No one can even understand why I haven't "upgraded" to a Eurovan. Now I know nothing about surfing and surfboards, but as far as I am concerned buying a Landrover would be a step down. Take my word for it. People (esp my sons friends) are always wanting me to sell them my van for amounts you wouldn't believe. Hang on to it.
