1980 Volkswagen Vanagon wolfsburg from North America - Comments

"There is a reason they started making these water cooled."

What things have gone wrong with the car?

These vanagons are just plain too heavy for an air cooled engine. It weighs twice what the previous buses weighed, and uses the same engine... a 1980 Vanagon with only 40,00 miles... you figure it out...it's because they run consistently at 225 degrees, rather than the regular 180 degrees fahrenheit, and they are too heavy. The worst vehicle I ever owned!

General comments?

The complaint about the 1980 motors, some research with die hard Vanagon owners who know what they are talking about will offer you the basic survival tools to bring a stock 1980 motor a wellnes package for a few bucks. Hey! it's all in the oil (synthetic), a couple of VDO guages an idiot light temp sensor in the speedo houseing, a bit of preperation will run that motor through almost any condition for a long time.. how about

135k miles and still running strong.. change oil every 5.000

miles, a relgious experience (almost) got a happy VW on your hands..

Oh, you gotta add a handful of love if you got some, of course the love stuff is optional.
