1990 Volvo 240 review from Australia and New Zealand
"Sound, reliable and safe!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Oil leak rear main seal. Replaced radiator.
General comments?
This sedan has reliably transported my family around town and country. I have never been left by the side of the road. The reason I no longer have it is due to a serious accident whereby a large truck hit the car (Nissan Maxi-ma) behind me which thrust me into the Camry in front, 3 med/large cars where written off! I sustained minor whiplash and returned to work in a week. The 240 will never win any races, but when you have your children on board are you ever in race mode? I'm not!!! A V70 has replaced it, but gee I miss the 240 simplicity, I intended to keep this car until 500 000 km, my Volvo mechanic told me it would easily have done that. My prediction for what its worth the 240 will become a 'cult car' much like the Kombi, it exudes strength and stability a perfect car for a young one learning to drive, they are very forgiving cars and can easily take a hit.
Fashion comes at a cost! 240's don't.
Get yourself a real car :)
