1984 Volvo 244 DL from North America - Comments

"I highly recommend the Volvo 240 above any car ever produced!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Replaced seats, visor clips, speakers, fuses, valve cover gasket, water pump, thermostat, distributor, rotor, cap, wires, plugs, electronic Ignition Control Module, ECU main computer, battery, alternator, mass air flow meter, wiring harness, all hoses, belts, lights, brake pads, catalytic converter, vacuum lines, set timing with new belt all in a couple of days with my own self labor with prior knowledge of Volvos and reading the manuals with easy access to all used parts in mint condition which is all routine anyway for the age, but the Volvo is the only possible vehicle to root out any common problems easiest. Did not change A/C system since all major components were deteriorated.

General comments?

Safest, cheapest, most practical and comfortable car to operate in the world after owning 20 other cars from other manufacturers. The all wheel disc brakes are excellent, body preservation, durable 4 cylinder engine engineering and Electronic fuel injection was far advanced for the era of the vehicle surpassing the reliability of any modern vehicle after the last of the Volvo 4 cylinders in 1995.

This review has to be a joke. Even though the car was very, very high mileage to begin with, your laundry list of repairs and replacements is ridiculous. After driving the car for about 21,000 miles you're pretty much no longer driving the same car. And you have the sense of humor to give the car a 10 out of 10 for running costs? Did you notice it says that a higher number indicates cheaper running costs? Your review is contradictory, has no substance and is totally incongruous with your statements. Give me a break.

I also forgot to mention that I changed the Fuel pump relays during the full mechanical/electrical restoration of this vehicle to top level performance. Thanks.

I also forgot to mention that the body was in exceptionally good condition when purchased with excellent original paint gloss and no dents nor any minor damage to the body. Thanks.

Good on the original reviewer! These old beasts should be kept alive - but they can only do so for so long before original things wear out! With some TLC, like the original reviewer is giving, these will go on forever! Well done.

I own a 1983 244 DL that I got from my grandfather years ago.

Before, the car had a lot of work done on it from the first owner. It had new intake, exhaust, suspension, electrical equipment and some more things that I can't list. However the never broke down its entire life or even tried to. I was proud of this car I will never sell it to anyone. One time a man came to want buy it for $140,000 but I turn it down because this mean a lot to me and shows me who I'am.
