The only major problem I've had so far is the clutch burnt out recently at 174,000Kms. This is not a common problem and it was my fault due to stupidity.
Although its my first car, it won't be my last Volvo I'm sure.
This car is Tough, Reliable and super smooth.
The interior is plush and roomy, it gives you a sense and security of a larger luxury sedan along with all the power options.
The 2.0L injected engine gives sparkling perfromance, and was definatly built to last.
Although not the fastest off the mark,
this car can easily tow its own weight.
Super torque at 2500rpm.
I own a 1990 360 GL and I have to say that it is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Some of my mates have had a bit to say about it until they've been passengers in it. I paid £295 for it a few months ago and it had 100,000 miles on it when I got it. Since then I have done just over 2000 miles and the only thing I've had to do to it apart from a service was replace the distributor cap. Class! OK it can be a bit heavy on petrol, and it does have a quite funky image. But, I like the design and the solid build is just simply bullet-proof. It's the only car in the street the thieves don't want and it's also the only one that the neighbour's kids can't vandalize to pieces. Brilliant.

I had a Volvo 360GL for many years, and I loved it. It handled OK, and the rear wheel drive is so nice (gravel, winter etc). The engine has fantastic quality. I drove my car about 860 000 km! It was because of rust, I had to scrap it in 2003. It had a rust problem in a few weldings, and along the side of the car (under). I had very few mechanical problems. I changed the thermostat a few times. They were cheap and took about 5-10 minutes to change. I changed the distributor cap 2 or 3 times, and some other minor thing. Finding cheap alternative parts (not original) for this car was very easy. I changed everything from distributor caps, brake pads, brake drums, brake disks, brake fluid, oil, oil filters, exhaust, wheel bearings and so on. The only part I changed that is not a regular service part was a unit with the coil and the vacuum pump for the carburetor, and an electronic module. Those parts was French - made by Bendix. Coincidence?
I live in Norway, and drove the car to Spain, Turkey, Greece, Italy etc. It worked perfectly. The handling at maximum speed on the autobahn in Germany could have been better. The engine sounded like an aircraft engine :-) and used a lot of gas.
It was very easy to change parts on and as previously mentioned - I could buy cheap parts for it at Biltema (a major Scandinavian car parts shop).
I never changed the clutch. No problems with drive shafts, no mechanical problems except from the coil and electronics unit. Comfortable seats.
I miss my Volvo, but they are to expensive to buy now...
