1993 Volvo 440 Li from UK and Ireland - Comments

"Bullet proof technology goes on forever"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Voltage regulator failed on the car, but was fixed at the roadside by the AA.

Other than the fault above everything else was just fair wear and tear. Oil changes, plugs, exhaust, Tyres etc.

Only reason I got rid of it was due to rust getting into the wheel arches on the rear off side.

General comments?

I bought the vehicle 2nd hand from a Volvo dealer in 1997 and did almost 100,000 miles in it all over the U. K before I parted with it in October 2004.The car is still going as I have seen it on the road locally.

Although the 440 will never win a styling competition I personally found it to be a good reliable car which just kept on going (and you really appreciate the heated seats in the winter).

My 440 was the base model Li and as it was built in 1993 it was one of the last models before Volvo fitted power steering which it must be said is essential as parking a one without it takes some strength.

The engine in the vehicle is a Renault engine and although some people say they are not reliable when fitted to Volvos I personally had no problems with it.

I had a 440li for 4 years as you say rust gets in the rear wheel arches which is a shame because the rest of the car was built like a tank, my head gasket was going (I think) had overheating problems that's why I got shut, should have had it done up because I bought a Ford Mondeo diesel after it (never ever again) lol.
