1990 Volvo 480 ES review from UK and Ireland
"Classic that will live long in the memory"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The rear central brake light - haven't got a clue why! one day it worked now it won't despite changing the bulb.
Passenger electric mirror.
Rev counter sometimes doesn't work when cold, but when it comes on, it stays on so not a problem.
Condensation builds up in the back - I've heard this is common and happens through the rear lights?? I really want to know how to cure this.
General comments?
This is my second 480 and I love it. Being a bit newer than my old one it really pays off, theres no rust on the wheel arches which is pretty common and everything seems to work how it should. Well without any big problems!!
It starts first time everytime, and although its not as quick as a manuel 480 the automatic is pretty smooth and a nice cruiser.
All the switch gear and display works fine which is quite impressive for such a old car with so much technology. Luckily I havnt had to pay any money on repairs of yet apart from a new tyre and the tracking adjusted. Oh and a light bulb! I truelly love these cars and hopefully want to get one of the rare GT's next.
I heard Volvo could be making a modern car based on the 480 next year... i can't wait.
