1993 Volvo 480 Turbo review from UK and Ireland
"Great Car.. Great Design, Iconic!!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Anti-Roll Bar Bushes, but cheap to fix!
General comments?
I always loved the 480, more specifically the Turbo, mine was a rare 5 spoke alloy version, with 4 x avons as standard, black over grey leather and in red, a red that refused to fade, so looked great and although not super quick, its 120bhp 1.7 Turbo Intercooler was a low pressure unit, so only cut in at 2000revs, so 8.8sec's to 60 dash, or, like for like as quick as the 1.7 Ford Puma with handling to match.
The 480 in Turbo guise, was a great car, well balanced chassis, no body roll, loads of grip and simply looks different, reliable, as long a you change the oil and filter every 4-6k like I did, it should sound very sweet and NEVER fail to start, unlike, dare I say the ford zetec's etc..
The 480 has 'at last' been re-introduced as the C30.. which in 'sport' form should be a winner, at last, the 480 gets developed and brought into the 2000's.. although, if you want a CLASSIC - grab a 480, forget the ES and S or 2.0 or even the GT, the one to have and the 'fast one' is the 480 Turbo.. take your time, theres not so many about!!
