1995 Volvo 740 GLE review from UK and Ireland
"The Volvo estate is the ultimate practical and prestigious car."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Rear window switch and driver's heated seat not working when purchased.
Plastic coating on top of the interior doors puckered up.
Left hand door speaker failed at 90,000.
Plastic wood-style trim came unstuck.
Odd clicking from the steering column in warm weather.
Air filter cover clip seatings break easily as the plastic hardens.
Slight leak from the differential box gasket.
General comments?
The Ministry of Transport test mechanics said it was a perfect example for a 107,000 mile car both inside and out.
I get 30 mpg on long runs and 20 mpg around town.
The car is easy to maintain because of its excellent mechanical build quality.
I recently fitted Bosch multi-electrode spark-plugs and definitely got more mid-range power.
Tires, brake discs and pads wear quickly.
