1996 Volvo 850 GLT review from North America
"Safe and reliable"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The CV joint boots needed replacement.
The windshield washer is clogged up.
The passenger side window needs to be realigned.
For routine maintenance, I had to get the
timing belt replaced (70,000 mile maintenance was not done by previous owner).
For routine maintenance, I got new sparks and a distributor cap. This maintenance was also not done by the previous owner.
The car needs a new AC evaporator.
General comments?
The car is roomy and comfortable.
The car handles well, even though it is a FWD. However, I preferred the handling on my previous Volvo (1990 760 Turbo).
I feel safe driving it.
The engine is reasonably nippy, but I preferred the turbo-charged B230FT in my previous car.
The gas mileage is lousy -- I get 15 mpg in the city (short 2 - 3 mile trips in traffic), and about 24 - 26 on the highway.
