1994 Volvo 940 review from North America
"One tough, solid, reliable car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Upon purchase (albeit from a shady seller) minor things needed repair: door contract switch and driver heated side mirror didn't work (both easy fixes)
Stock radio/cassette is poor (replaced) and power antennae didn't extend (common problem)
Rear defrosted is s-l-o-w to do the job.
General comments?
This is the best car I have ever owned (previous cars have included Subaru, Honda and Toyota).
It offers a smooth ride, is rock solid, has a high profile on the road, and is OK on gas mileage (averages around 23 mpg).
Do the regular servicing (NOT at a high cost dealership) and the car will run for a long time. Make sure to clean the flame trap every 36k to avoid engine seal blowouts.
Air conditioning is mediocre, but I live in the northwest so it's not as vital as other hotter parts of the country and the cold weather package is terrific - I love the heated side mirrors and heated seats!
Cup holders in center arm rest are flimsy and awkwardly placed.
After-market parts are bountiful on-line and it's essentially the same as a 240 so mechanics know how to deal with them.
