Nothing so far!
Had one before, older model, some differences with the newer facelift model, looks like they've done more than just a facelift, handling much improved though wheelspin in the wet is still bad.
Engine just starting to slacken up though it feels slower than older 1.9 unit, though it may take some time to break it in, on the whole a good improvement, a much better vehicle than the Audi A3 I had before (1.8T), sloppy handling and piles of problems (clutch snapped, gearbox failed + many others).
On the whole a much improved car, better looking too with a more square front end.
Interior a little cheaper looking than the last model. The car is also a couple of grand cheaper than the last ie. standard metallic paint and winter pack, has all I need under 20K, what would you pay for a 3 Series with similar speed/kit?
I have owned a Volvo S40 for nearly 2 years and have not experienced any mechanical or body problems.
The engine did take a while to loosen, but the performance is more than satisfactory for my needs and I think the model is under rated by the motoring press. It is a capable car, well engineered with good handling. Driven within it's limits it has always felt very safe.
My only moans are that the ride with alloys and low profile tyres is a little harder than I would like and on along run the seats, although supportive, can seem hard.
The hidden surround to the boot opening collects water and dead leaves etc. - odd design and irritating, but so far no sign of rust or leaks, just a pain to keep this hidden part clean.
A fair review.
