1999 Volvo S40 T4 review from UK and Ireland
"A wolf in sheep's clothing"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Turbocharger wastegate packed up, but I got the turbo repaired for only £100.
Bit of trouble with brakes, rear calipers replaced, ongoing issue.
When I bought it I knew that the rear trailing arm bushes were creaking, but I have sorted that.
General comments?
The car I bought was quite high mileage and I knew it needed a few things doing, just renewables really like brake pads and discs.
It's quite sporty, handles alright and pretty quick if pushed. Quite comfy to drive although a bit aged now compared with very modern cars. Plenty of airbags and other safety features.
Personally I like the look of the car, and the extra sporty bits on the T4 make it stand out from the normal S40 just enough.
Seems to be plenty of room for 4 inside as well, and a decent enough sized boot.
