I am considering purchasing a 2002 and am wondering about gas mileage. I do mainly in-city driving since our freeways in Seattle are usually backed up...

Thanks.

I have a 2002 s60t and have a " bulb failure - left turn signal ". I've replaced the bulbs twice already. They will work for a couple of days then I'll get the warning again. When the warning is on... all the left blinkers blink rapidly. The front left (driver) blinker is dimmer than the right blinker. I don't know what is causing this. Does anyone?

I have a V70 2.4t AWD, witch is basically a same car. The AWD system is great, reliable and with fair gas mileage. Avoid the geartronic, I've had a problem with it. My next car will be Volvo V70 AWD, but with manual transmition.

I bought a 2004 S60 last February and I have to say that overall I'm impressed with this car.

However, like everyone else, I just got a POSITION BULB FAILURE warning. I checked all of the lights and couldn't find anything wrong. I also had to replace both headlamps within a month of owning it (they failed within a week of each other) but I chalked it up to the car being about 3yrs old, so it was about time anyhow.

If I had a complaint it would be that I expected more punch when I accelerated... it just doesn't impress me at all in that area, but it's no big deal.

Love the car!!!

I have two Volvo S 60's. I am pleased with their performance so far. I had the locking problem and when you use the key to lock the doors, it resets itself. I just had to replace the alternator in one of the cars at 40K miles. The mechanic said I should have recharged the battery before using it after 3 months in storage. It started right up so I thought it would recharge during the trip. As it turned out, the mechanic said I burnt it out because of the air conditioning being on with a low charge on the battery. I never heard such a thing before. It cost $ 800 to repair.

I was advised that the Volvo S40, S60 and S80 are built on Ford Focus.

So a Volvo V70 is built on Lincoln. Is this true? If it is true I can't see anyone purchasing these cars. Just buy Ford.

Sorry, the new S40 and New V70 are based on Ford platforms (god forbid), but the S60 isn't - true Volvo!!!

The S60 is built using the "Volvo P2 platform", which is shared with the Volvo V70 (until MY 08), XC90 and the (now just replaced) Volvo S80. This is not a Ford platform, but has been used in modified form by Ford.

Volvo developed the platform before the Ford takeover and then Ford used it as the "Ford D3" which include the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable. Amongst the changes Ford made were the use of steel instead of aluminium for the suspension arms. Hope this clears up where our much loved S60 derives from!

By the way, I also just got the "position lamp" warning! Couldn't see which bulb it was until I read this forum and realised it's the licence plate lamp! Thanks!

Aside from bulbs, this car is great and tremendous value for money.

I had a question. I bought a 2002 S60 and can't tell it it's a base or turbo? Was the base available in North America?

It has 15 inch wheels, but has the leather, memory seats, automatic tranny, and other options that are available on the turbo... no owners manual.. runs great though!

Please help.

How much cc's and horse powers does it get?

2.4 L with 140hp = non turbo

2.4 L with 170hp = non turbo

2.0 L with 180hp = turbo

2.4 L with 200hp = turbo (low pressure <2003)

2.5 L with 210hp = turbo (low pressure from 2003 on)

2.3 L with 250hp = turbo (high pressure T5 <2003)

2.4 L with 260hp = turbo (high pressure T5 from 2003 on)

2.5 L with 300hp = turbo (high pressure R from 2004 on)

Like I mentioned before, I have no owners manual and don't know how much horsepower I have, it feels a little slow off the light, but picks up very well afterwards. Are there any other ways of telling without taking it in?

Cc's and hp/kw are written in your registration, I think.

Otherwise I can tell you if you upload a picture or two with an engine bay.

I just bought a used 2002 Volvo s60AWD with 100k. I do not have the owner's manual and was wondering if this car has a timing belt or a timing chain. Also, does it need to be replaced at 100k or more and does anyone have an idea of the cost for such a replacement (in Canadian $)

Gotta say, have had the same bulb problems, plus others. Mostly just a nuisance. The driving is great, especially highway trips. HOWEVER, repairs and service have cost us dearly. It is in the shop almost quarterly with high dollar repairs. This S60 is becoming the bane of our existence. Currently in with a proposed 2k worth of repairs needed; some sensor replacement (supposedly stuffed in the doors somewhere???), leaking transmission, and split boots on both sides. Love the experience, hate the cost. So much for the XC70 we were going to buy this year.
