We have a 2002 S60 2.4t and we love it! I have owned all kinds of cars and this is my favorite by far.

The only problem I have with the car is the terrible turning radius parking and tight turns always result in the tires rubbing (I have the optional 17 inch tires and rims). I contacted Volvo on this matter to which they replied "oh that's normal"; you're telling me that when this car rolled out of the factory and they made a tight turn and the tires rubbed the Volvo engineers said oh well can't do anything 'bout that, it's just normal, give me a break!!

I have also had the alignment checked and I am running the stock suspension and tire size. Is this common??

Sorry to rant on, but that is the only real issue with the car.

I would buy another S60 without reservation. It is quiet, rides and handles very well and consumes very little fuel considering its performance.

Many people have commented that the body style is very sexy. It looks more like a sports car than a family sedan.

The only problem with that is the trunk and back seat seems a little smaller than my previous Volvo 850 and S70s, but I still don't have any problem carrying around two small kids in booster seats!

Overall a very good car and excellent value. I recommend it!!

I have a 2001 S60, and love it! I was so glad to find this site, like everyone else I am having an issue with the position light. I read a comment about the emissions system, and what I have found when this light comes on is that you are not using a high enough octane level in the gas you are putting in your car. I find if I use 89 or higher octane levels, I don't get the emissions warning.

I am having an issue with the passenger door lock. I can't unlock or roll the window down from the driver side or from my remote lock. But, you can from the passenger door... any suggestions?

I have just had the position light come on and I am thinking that the bulbs are blown on the seat where you have memory buttons that were illuminated for the seat POSITION, (memory 1, memory 2, etc.). Am I this far away from being in touch with my 2006 S60.

I am from the UK and have had the same 2002 S60 D5 for about 4 1/2 years – I love it and at the expense of a couple of light bulbs now and then (same number plate bulb problem) I may keep it for another 4 ½ years – It’s a great car.

I am so glad to have found this site. I just had the same position light problem, and could find nothing in the owners manual as to what this was. I just went and slammed my trunk door and will see if it works. If not, then I will replace the plate bulb. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the "Time for regular maintenance" message? I have my oiled changed elsewhere other than my local Volvo dealer, who are nothing more than thieves and untrained mechanics, but can't get the message to clear. I love the car, though.

I have owned it for more than two years, and have no problems other than the little white plastic pieces that hold the window to the arm break on me in the middle of the winter on a very cold night. My Volvo dealer screwed that up three times, and since they have fixed it, I have had a terrible rattle in that door, but they want to charge me another $100 an hour to look at it and see what they can do to fix it.

I believe all my next cars will be Volvo's as well. Great auto. Hopefully, Ford doesn't ruin them as they have their own.

After 3 years my mom finally unloaded her S60 2.5T and got back into a solid, smooth and definitely more luxurious Lincoln MKZ. The Volvo was not necessarily a bad car, but at a price one would expect to pay for a luxury car it felt no different than a less expensive economy model such as a Camry or Accord. It was neither sporty nor luxurious.

The MKZ is far more luxurious, faster, and actually handles every bit as well as the S60. Mom had driven Lincoln Town Cars since 1984 until she was talked into the S60. It was a major disappointment, and she will be sticking with Lincoln from now on.

However, I have just traded my Lincoln in for a Volvo S602.5T. What a difference! The Volvo is smaller, but handles like it's on rails and the build quality is superb. This is the best decision. No more Domestics for me, this Volvo has made me wake up to the brand. I brought on recommendation and I will be recommending!

I'd hardly say the S60 2.5T handles like it's on rails. Rides like it's going over rails, maybe, but the handling wasn't any better than our Ford Fusion or the new Malibu. At about two thirds of the cost the Malibu and Fusion offer everything the S60 does. We've had our LAST Volvo. It's good to not only be supporting U.S. industry (although Ford owns Volvo), but it's nice to have a truly good driving, solid car and have only HALF the monthly payments.

Hi. I am considering buying a 2002 Volvo S60 AWD with about 50k miles. So far from the reviews I've read there haven't been major complaints about the car. What mechanical issues should I expect in the AWD? Are there any problems with the transmission system? Heard meticulous care of the AWD tires is required, what exactly is involved?

I have a 2001 Volvo S60, and I have had problems with the "bulb failure position light" for 6 months, I have looked in my owners manual and on line, trying to find out what the position light is. With no luck! Finally I received a message stating "check brake light". When I went to change my brake light bulb, I noticed there was another bulb that had blown. After replacing that bulb, the position light message went off my message center. It was the parking light bulb. Position? Parking? I'm not sure, but it must have been a mess up in translation when entered into the message board system.

When you pull the apparatus that holds the brake light bulb, there are 4 bulbs, the parking light bulb is the top center bulb. Sometimes the bulbs do not look like they are blown, when they really are. My suggestion is changing this bulb... it worked for me.

PS I LOVE MY CAR!!!

You are exactly correct about the bulb failure position light being the top light in the middle of the 4 tail lights connection. Other than replacing bulbs, this is the best auto I have ever had.

If I need to pass anyone, my S60 2.4T acts as though leaving other cars in the dust, is what it was made for. I only need to let people know that it will get you a few tickets, WELL not if you bank the head over public safety! WORD OF ADVICE: Go to court and beg for driving school... If not available, then the courts don't care to kill your insurance as long as you will pay the fine! MAKE IT EASY ON YOURSELF!

I am glad to have found this site! I own a 2001 Volvo S60 with over 200K miles on it. Other than normal maintenance (ie brake pads, oil changes, wiper blades) and replacing a strut bracket this car has been AMAZING! I sold a new Hyundai SUV for pay off - just to get out from under it and paid cash for the Volvo. The former owner told me he wouldn't be surprised if I got another 100K miles out of it. While the replacement parts are EXPENSIVE if you to a Volvo dealership - I have been able to find all I need on ebay at a cheap price, and found a great mechanic who is not charging an arm and a leg to do the work. If I can pay cash for cars like this in the future, I'll never have a car payment again!

I really do love my 2001 Volvo S60 2.4t.

That said, I have lately been hearing a strange noise like a clicky clacky sound on my left front wheel. Almost sounds/feels like it might fall off.

I am afraid to go to Volvo because I don't have a lot of money right now to pay someone to look at it then want more to fix it.

Does anyone have any experience with a noise or problem like this?
