1998 Volvo S70 Saloon review from UK and Ireland
"Brilliant car for long journeys"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Two Electric windows failed at 44k miles.
Starter motor failed at 70k miles.
Battery failed at 80k (Volvo fitted a
battery that was too small for the car in the first place).
Leather steering wheel started to wear badly at only 43k (I wouldn't expect this until at least 70k).
The horn started honking continuously which required me to have to disconnect it at 83k.
Other than this the car has been 100% reliable and has given enjoyable motoring.
General comments?
The car is a pleasure to drive and handles terrible Irish roads with ease.
Reliability wise it's miles better than bigger cars such as the S80 which I hear loads of things about. The seats are the best in the business and the cabin gives a homely and secure feel. Build quality is a notch up from the 850 which I owned. The engine is also a beast and has a beautiful exhaust note.
The bad things are the electrics which really badly need to be improved on,
depreciation affects it dreadfully, the car eats light bulbs for breakfast and Volvo Dealer Service is appalling.
