1998 Volvo S70 review from North America
What things have gone wrong with the car?
This car has started to go down hill fast. Last month we had to replace portions of the air conditioning system that cost $1500.00 to replace.
This month the car died on the highway and had to be towed in to the shop. I was told the computer system that controls the fuel injectors has gone bad, the system was not shutting off the flow of gas to the engine. I tend to believe this since you could smell a very strong gasoline odor when you tried to start the car. When they finally replaced the computer system they found that the reason the computer failed is that the wiring harness has shorted out which was the root cause for the computer failing. The cost to replace the computer system is $1400.00 and the cost for the wiring harness is $2000.00.
The shop I am using is one that I have used for many years and they have been fair and reasonable with me over the years, but this seems to be excessive. They tell me that there is no good way to find and repair a short in the wiring and that it makes more sense to replace it.
Can someone please let me know if I am being given reasonable answers and normal costs for these repairs.
Thank you very much.
