2000 Volvo S80 review from North America

Transmission went out at 90,000, None Volvo transmission speciallist rebuilt and covered under extended warranty.

Tie rod replaced 102,000.

7 or 8 code warnings appear on dash. Non-Volvo mechanic shop usually does not have a code reader for Volvo.

Multi-Disc cd player will state "error" in most attempts. Will play sometimes. Not worth fixing. Speakers and sound is superb.

I would have to say that my experience with this Volvo has been better than average compared to other cars I have owned. This includes the reliability as well.

When the transmission went out I was scared, that I have bought the wrong car. Extended Warranty covered 90% of $1800.00 rebuild cost.

Two vehicles (non-volvo), purchased new had major transmission problems at approximate same miles.

Engine sound is perfect hum, still like new. Acceleration is smooth and accurate to pedal movement. Average gas miles are around 28, using mid-grade. Maybe 30 on highway.

Strong breaks. You can tell you have superior equiptment, I have had to increase my pushing power to get same breaking results on all other cars I have owned, but not on the Volvo.

Hard to explain smoothness in ride. Holds road fine, sucks up and keeps stable on large non abrupt wave type bumps. Short abrupt, like uneven road joints, cause a small jolt feel to ride.

Electronic gismo's or buttons have not failed me at all.
