The only issues that I have had with my S80 was at 14,884 Kilometers the motor for the antenna needed to be serviced because it was not extending the antenna correctly. Other than that its at 360,266 Kilometers and still going strong.
Because I travel allot I drive this car on a consistent basis whether its for business or just taking the family with me for a vacation down south, I needed a car that was not only comfortable, dependable, but safe. This car has far exceeded my expectations.
Everything inside of this vehicle is in absolute perfect harmony. The smooth colors, the superior quality of materials and the awe-inspiring spaciousness establishes an ambiance that no other could even imagine. The elegance and functionality combined with its lavish interior style and comfort without doubt leaves a lasting impression.
The S80’s chassis, being the most advanced in the automotive world, demonstrates immaculate agility, comfort and handling. This combined with the exceptionally smooth, powerful turbo charged T6 engine and the responsive transmission thrills from the start. The unmistakable distinctiveness of this vehicles dynamic and powerful design makes its mark where ever you go.
Volvo has created an automobile that clearly represents unmistakable design, quality, and superior craftsmanship.
I will not hesitate to purchase another product from Volvo and I am already in the process of replacing my wife's Lexus LS430 with an S80. The transmission in the LS430 had to be replaced at 8,484 kilometers and at 16,384 kilometers the direct import injector rattles, and the computer failed at 10,788 kilometers.
Well done on a great review! I feel the same with my s70!
I agree with the poster above! Excellent review! I too own a Volvo S80, this actually being my second one, because the first one saved my life! A fully loaded transport truck traveling at 84 mph (135 km/h) hit a patch of black ice and crossed over into my lane and hit me head on. Emergency services, police officers, and firefighters all said that if I were not in that Volvo, I would have been dead.
I am proud to drive this car not only because of its prestige, but because I have the peace of mind knowing that my son, whom I will pass this car down to, will be safe and sound wherever he goes. And that to me is more important then the price of this car because there some things in life that are priceless.
Curious that the only thing that you needed serviced was the motor for your power antenna because the S80 doesn't have one. It has a glass antenna. I no sooner believe that you own a S80 than I believe the comment posted about being hit head on by a semi traveling over 80 MPH. Since this happened on a freeway the Volvo must have been going at least 60 MPH so there was a closing speed of 140 MPH and the occupants of the Volvo were uninjured? That's just Ripley's Believe It or Not physics. Clearly...not.
The poster said that he would not be alive if he were not in a volvo. not that he was uninjured. a volvo is a safe car and your chances of survival are higher in one than many other cars out there!
This Volvo does not have an antenna that is governed by a motor. The Volvo S80 uses a dual diversity in glass antenna. It is to my suspicion that either a) you have made an error, or b) as stated by the previous poster you don't own one.
I do however find the comment with regards to the collision valid. The reason why is because I my self have been involved in a high speed collision involving a large vehicle, and I too walked away unscathed. My car was not an S80 mind you it was an XC70. I have a family member who was a former truck driver and is now currently a fleet manager in the transport industry and has told me stories where people have walked away from serious high speed collisions in Volvo's. It is because of his stories that made me purchase my XC70 in the first place. Its not a freak of nature, its called engineering. Something I guess the previous poster has no concept of.
My apologizes for the error in my review. Yes I am aware that the S80 uses a glass antenna. The antenna mentioned in my review was an after-market installation which is used strictly for communication purposes. I should not have included that bit of information due to the fact it is not a factory installation. Once again I would like to apologize for my error. The rest of the information with regards to the millage has been verified and is correct.
Yes I agree that some things are more important than just luxury, or economy let's say.. to note Volvo's iconic safety. However, what's the point of hoping a safe protection from disastrous crash, when we could get accident also from such things as ABS failure, engine failure amidst our..let's say again.. trying to pass a truck in a highway?? That too... can lead to "disaster", right? Structural strength? SIPS, airbags? Okay, Volvo got it best.. But now, how about reliability of the other components?
