1999 Volvo V40 XS review from UK and Ireland
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Alarm system faulty for 6 months. Two Volvo dealers unable to fix.
Various pieces of trim have fallen off.
Car stalls in 1st and 2nd if you don't rev it quite unlike any other car I have had in the last 9 years (6 new cars).
Gear change is notchy, my dealer says it will have to be replaced soon (22,000 miles).
General comments?
As a working estate car I would not recommend this V40. It is too small inside and I only get 28 mpg which is poor. The seatbelt warning buzzer is a real pain as are the daytime running lights if you wish to keep a low profile on the motorway. Engine is noisy and unrefined if you push the car on a bit. Handling is safe but uninspiring. In summary a very mediocre car.
