2004 Volvo XC90 T 6 review from North America
"Well Designed Masterpeice"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Nothing as of yet and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
General comments?
I traded my lemony S40 for this beautiful Silver beauty In October of 2003. This would be my fourth Volvo and I almost went the to the Honda dealership. Two of my previous three Volvo's had been extremely reliable and after going down in size from a C70 to a S40 I was desperate for enough room to accommodate a passenger behind my drivers seat. The minute I sat in the XC90 I was reminded of the S70 I'd driven briefly in High School. The SUV handles as well as the smaller Volvos and I went well over what I'd intended to have as a payment to get the car.
The first impression of many was that the car was hideous, but that quickly changed. I have yet to have anyone go anywhere with me that they don't fall in love with the car or it's features. My Cousin is cursing herself for buying a Tahoe after seeing the center section of the middle seat slide forward to provide easy access to her daughter. My Father loves the handling and others have noted the quiet ride. Nothing feels plastic (though a bit too much of it is.) nothing squeaks or creeks on the ride and driver feedback is extraordinary for a SUV of it's class.
The seat adjustment is a bit rigid however, but as usual the Memory's come in handy as everyone seems to want to drive it and mess with my seat. The sound system is fantastic, but the buttons on the control panel seem to overwhelm some passengers and attract children. Volvo still needs to tweak their on-board computer, but to those familiar with Volvo's Instruments you will feel right at home. Gas Mileage is not as good as some, but better than most, and the third row seats seem out of place when empty and have a last minute addition look about them.
My advice is go out and buy this car. No other SUV comes close. Yes it may cost a little more, but I think that this car will hold it's value.
